Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Tweet Viewer uses cookies and similar technologies, which ones are set, who sets them, how long they last, and exactly how to turn them off. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy. Last updated: August 30, 2026.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are used to make sites work, to make them work better, and to tell site owners how their pages are used.
A cookie is first-party if the site you are visiting sets it, and third-party if another service does — an analytics or advertising provider, for example. A session cookie disappears when you close your browser; a persistent one stays until it expires or you delete it.
We also use related technologies — local storage, pixels and web beacons — which this policy refers to collectively as “cookies”.
2. How we use them
We use cookies to keep the Site working and secure, to remember your preferences, to understand how visitors use the tools so we can improve them, and — where advertising is enabled — to support the Site with ads so it stays free. We group them into four categories:
- Essential. Required for the Site to function; they cannot be switched off in our systems. These are what let you sign in and stay signed in.
- Preferences. Remember your language, your light/dark theme, and your saved favourites, alerts, bookmarks and recent lookups. Most of this lives in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and never reaches us unless you sign in.
- Analytics. Help us see which pages and tools people actually use. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity.
- Advertising. Set by Google and other advertising vendors to make ads more relevant, cap how often you see the same ad, and measure whether ads worked.
3. Cookies we and our partners set
The table below is a good-faith guide. Names and durations are set by these third parties and can change without notice.
| Cookie | Set by | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
tv_session | Tweet Viewer | Essential | Signed, HTTP-only sign-in session | 30 days |
tv_signedin | Tweet Viewer | Essential | Records only that a session exists, so the page can skip account requests when you are signed out | 30 days |
_ga | Google Analytics | Analytics | Distinguishes unique users | Up to 2 years |
_ga_<id> | Google Analytics | Analytics | Persists session state | Up to 2 years |
_gid | Google Analytics | Analytics | Distinguishes users | 24 hours |
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Analytics | Retains a Clarity user ID and preferences | 1 year |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Analytics | Combines page views into a single session | 1 day |
CLID | Microsoft Clarity | Analytics | Identifies first-time Clarity users | 1 year |
ANONCHK | Microsoft | Analytics | Checks whether MUID is used for advertising (set to 0 for Clarity) | 10 minutes |
MUID, MR, SM | Microsoft | Analytics / Ads | Identify browsers and sync IDs across Microsoft domains | 7 days – 1 year |
IDE | Google (DoubleClick) | Advertising | Ad delivery and measurement | Up to 13 months |
test_cookie | Google (DoubleClick) | Advertising | Checks whether the browser supports cookies | 15 minutes |
Advertising cookies may be set from domains such as doubleclick.net, googlesyndication.com and googleadservices.com. Advertising cookies appear only where advertising is enabled on the Site.
4. Local storage we use
Some things are stored in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, which means they stay on your device and are not sent with every request:
- your favourite profiles, alert list and bookmarked posts;
- your recent lookups and download history;
- your chosen language and light/dark theme.
If you are signed out, none of this reaches us. If you sign in, your favourites, alerts and bookmarks are also synced to your account so they work across devices — see the Privacy Policy. You can clear all of it at any time through your browser's “clear site data” setting.
5. Your choices
Browser settings. Every major browser lets you view, delete and block cookies:
Blocking cookies may break sign-in and preference saving, but viewing and downloading will still work.
Opt out of personalised advertising: Google My Ad Center; optout.aboutads.info; YourAdChoices; or AppChoices for mobile apps.
Opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Opt out of Microsoft Clarity by declining non-essential cookies and by using your browser's tracking-protection settings; see the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. Because the industry never agreed on what DNT should mean, the Site does not currently respond to it.
We do, however, honour Global Privacy Control (GPC). Where it applies, a GPC signal from your browser is treated as a request to opt out of the “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising for that browser.
7. Changes and contact
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
