Bottom line

On x.com, go to Settings → Privacy and safety → Content you see, and turn on 'Display media that may contain sensitive content.' The mobile apps hide this toggle, so change it in a mobile browser at x.com. To see flagged public media without an account, open the post in the no-login /twitter-viewer.

What 'sensitive content' means on X

X flags some media as potentially sensitive (graphic, adult, or violent). By default it's blurred behind a "This media may contain sensitive content" warning. There are two relevant settings: whether you see flagged media, and whether your own posts are marked. This guide covers seeing it.

Desktop (x.com)

Click More → Settings and privacy → Privacy and safety → Content you see. Check "Display media that may contain sensitive content." That immediately stops the blur/warning on flagged media across your logged-in session. Note you must be signed in and (per X policy) an adult account.

Mobile: use the browser, not the app

The iOS and Android X apps hide the sensitive-media toggle to comply with app-store rules, so you often can't change it in-app. The workaround: open x.com in your mobile browser (Safari/Chrome), sign in, and follow the same Settings → Privacy and safety → Content you see path. The change then applies to your account everywhere, including the app.

Viewing flagged public media without an account

If you don't want to sign in at all, open the post in the no-login Twitter Viewer. Because it renders public media directly rather than gating it behind account-level warnings, flagged public images and videos display without the interstitial. You can also save that media with the video downloader or GIF downloader. For privacy while doing so, see our anonymous viewing guide.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn off the sensitive content warning on X?

On x.com, go to Settings → Privacy and safety → Content you see, and enable 'Display media that may contain sensitive content.'

Why can't I find the setting in the app?

The iOS/Android apps hide it for app-store compliance. Change it in a mobile browser at x.com and it applies to the app too.

Do I need an account to change this?

Yes, to change the account setting. To simply view flagged public media without an account, use /twitter-viewer.

Can I view sensitive content without logging in?

You can view flagged public media by opening the post in the no-login viewer, which renders it without the account-level warning.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. X requires an adult account to display media flagged as sensitive.

The setting keeps resetting — why?

Some regions and account states re-apply restrictions. Re-check the toggle in a browser; if it won't stick, the media may be restricted in your region.

Does this show every hidden post?

It removes the sensitive-media interstitial. Content removed for policy violations still won't appear.

Can I download flagged media?

Public flagged media can be saved with the video or GIF downloader once you can view it.

Will changing this affect my own posts' visibility?

No. This setting controls what you see, not how your posts are marked. Marking your own media is a separate toggle.

Is viewing sensitive content against the rules?

No, viewing permitted sensitive media as an adult is allowed. Redistributing it may still raise copyright or policy issues.
